Enhanced size and shape

Depending on your goals, anatomy, and proportions, a better shaped breast can be created with breast implants.

Breast implants are used to enlarge the breasts and create breast symmetry, thereby enhancing the female silhouette. Regardless of the reason for wanting to augment your breasts, Dr. Few can help to guide you with the choices you have to make, including saline vs silicone implants, how to choose the right size, and whether to go under or over the muscle.

Saline or silicone?

Saline and silicone-filled implants have different characteristics, from the way they feel to the way they’re maintained. While saline implants are saltwater (saline) filled and have a sloshier, firmer feel, silicone implants are gel filled and have a more natural breast tissue feel. The gel is thick and sticky, closely resembling the texture of human fat (hence the more “natural” feel).

Over or under the muscle?

Implants can either be placed above (over) the pectoral muscles, or beneath (under) the muscles.

Placement under the muscle can be fully or partially covered by muscle when placed in the sub-pectoral plane. Implants placed under the muscle have been shown to help prevent some of the potential complications of breast augmentation, including limiting risk of capsule contracture, limiting the “round” look of implants, preventing visible rippling or wrinkling of the implants, preventing “bottoming out” of the implants, and increased longevity.

Sizing it right

To determine the right size breast implants, Dr. Few will take a number of chest wall measurements at your initial consultation for breast augmentation in Chicago. Based on your desired results and pre-existing breast base width, he will be able to accurately advise you on implant size.

Procedural Steps

Anesthesia

Dr. Few will use either oral, IV or general anesthesia so that you remain comfortable during your procedure. Oral anesthesia procedures are performed on-site at The Few Institute in a fully certified procedure room.

Incision and placement

Generally speaking, saline implants, which are filled after they’re put into the body, require the same incision as their silicone counterparts, which are pre-filled in the manufacturing process.

There are three locations Dr. Few considers when placing your breast implants—the areola (around the nipple), the armpit (transaxillary), and under the breast (in the breast fold).

There are advantages to all incision locations. Yours will be determined based on your preferences, your anatomy, and the size and type of implant that’s right for you.

Closing the incisions

Dr. Few will close the incisions with sutures and skin adhesives.

Your results

It will take several days to return to more normal activities after your breast augmentation in Chicago at The Few Institute. He will give you specific instructions for massage techniques crucial to the recovery process. After your surgery, you may be able to return to work within just a few days, depending on the type of activities that are required at your job. Strenuous physical activity should be avoided for at least the first couple of weeks following your breast implants in Chicago.
